Mallorca, Sacred and Profane Zine
Mallorca, Sacred and Profane Zine
Mallorca, Sacred and Profane OR El Salt de la Bella Donna OR l’illa de la Calma
When I first visited the island of Mallorca 15 years ago, I was surprised by its forbidding landscape and the slightly sinister quality of its beauty. It felt to me like an island of demons and spirits rather than tourists. This zine contains 15 brief, illustrated anecdotes about the sacred and profane legends of the island, including the witches who walk between two peaks on one night of the year, the apparition of Our Lady that appeared just to wipe sweat from a tired priest’s head, and the beautiful woman whose betrothed killed her in an act of jealousy on his way to make a pilgrimage.
The zine is printed using risograph printing a.k.a. digital screen printing. Produced as an explanatory companion to a painting of the same name, completed in the same year.
28 pages printed using two-color risography (“digital screen printing”) on high quality paper, including illustrations.
Published in December, 2024. Printed in NYC by Lucky Risograph.
