A hand-sewn zine with an essay written by me about the Marquis de Sade’s obsession with math. Many people know de Sade as the inspiration for the word “sadism” and one of the most notorious writers of erotic literature, but fewer know him as a prison writer whose preoccupation with numbers originated in his indefinite detention in the Bastille. This essay makes the case for de Sade as numbers-obsessive and muses on the implications for his work.
